I Have to Switch the Wash, and Other Blessings

“I have to switch the wash”, I literally think this could be my motto.

While for many this may come across as an inconvenience, oftentimes this statement floods me with gratitude.

Like you, there have been times in my life that were not as easy as others. With life comes amazing blessings, as well as things that we need to work through over time. As a result of some of these more challenging times in my life, even when faced with the mundane task of switching the wash, I am deeply grateful for the privilege.

You see, I am alive and well and able to do this. I can clean the kitchen and I can make my kids lunch. And yes, sometimes I gripe in those early mornings and need to gently remind myself of this gift.

In general, I am moved that I can offer my family this act of love. To be able to care for them and to be there in the morning to tell them how much I love them before they head out to school and work.

So, when faced with a chore, or an errand, or a cleanup, that at first may not strike you as anything but an annoyance and disruption to your day, try to look at this through a new lens.

Make this act a practice of gratitude for the gift of life. Consider it an offering of love for your beloveds. Make it a purposeful act, rather than something you have to do. Because you always have a choice, and if you are choosing to do something, do it with love.
